I've been reading about all the bad reactions from Hartz products, i'm looking for something safer. Can someone suggest a safe and healthy shampoo for dogs?

i use baby shampoo, it doesn't dry out their skin

When I wash my dog, I usually use tear-free Kids Suave shampoo, and it works pretty good, then dry him off with a hair dryer...
dont dry him er her w hair dryer itll just dry his /her skin out .i work at a pet store n use our best seller groomers blend . its inexpensive an works great!
Please go to a pet supply store and ask for an all natural shampoo product for your dog. Oatmeal and aloe products are especially kind on the dog's skin. Stay away from those cheap, harsh shampoos.
ive used johnson %26amp; Johnson baby shampoo!
hartz and sargents are both low quality shampoos that could hurt your dog if he is sensitive. they are mass marketed and as such, quality suffers.

go to an actual pet store instead of walmart or the grocery store.

Davis and Biogroom are both good brands, which make shampoos anywhere from scented, tearless, medicated, oatmeal, flea and tick, or puppy. Fresh and Clean is also a good brand, though slightly lesser quality. you shouldn't have any trouble with bad reactions to these products.
Tropiclean is a good shampoo (it smells good too).

I used the tea tree and oatmeal on our girl Shadow because of her dry skin.

Tropiclean also came out with a new line called ';Spa'; that my SIL swears by.

Believe it or not Paul Mitchelle makes a pet care line and it is very safe and smells great.
good for dog, good for earth: Earthbath www.earthbath.com

I use tea tree oil and aloe.

You dilute it quite a bit, so a bottle lasts a loooong time. It smells nice and clean and is very good for the skin. Also, my dog never needs to ';cover'; the smell. She (and past dogs) do this with shampoos with fake perfumes in it.
Yes, I've never heard good things about Hartz. We use Sergeants.
Baby Shampoo
Hartz, Sargents, Zodiac all use the same ingredients and are pretty harsh toxic stuff. If you want just a regular bath, find an oatmeal based shampoo formulated for dogs. Great for the skin. If you are worried about fleas, Frontline and Advantage work far better than any shampoo, they are easy to apply, are very nontoxic, and leave no residue or odor.

Dog's skin pH is different than ours, it's really best to get a dog shampoo. Sensitive dogs can and do react to baby shampoo.
*Buddy Wash* is what we use for our 2 dogs they both have really different coat types -1 is a Goldendoodle wich is Golden retriever Poodle mix wich is curly- And the other one is Shihtzu wich is a smoother coat! We had that recomended by our dog Trainer/Groomer and it has been Great!

-Hope this helps-
You can get shampoo for dogs at pet's mart, etc. also Paul Mitchell has a pet shampoo and other products.
I bathe my dogs every 2 weeks with baby shampoo and use a dog hair conditioner for mats and tangles. It works great, doesn't sting their eyes or irritate thier skin, and is cheap.

If it's safe enough for babies, how bad can it be for dogs?
Most pet stores like petsmart/petco have many different types of dog shampoo other than the Hartz brand.
I personally use an oatmeal shampoo on my four-legged gal. She has fairly dry skin and this works well, and also cuts down on her itchies. I've seen oatmeal shampoos from places like Target or Wal-Mart or even in dog supply catalogs (Dr. Foster's catalog I believe). Another bonus, it smells good without the dog hating they smell good :)
I like this kind http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/200鈥?/a>

also try tearless shampoo. http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/200鈥?/a>

if you do not use tearless shampoo and you get soap in your dogs eye, he can get pinkeye. If that happens, squirt saline solution in his eyes several times a day. If that does not clear it up with in 3 days, you have to take him to the vet.
