Is it safe to use shampoo replacing as a detergent?

Just found out my mom's been using shampoo as a detergent for laundry. So, I was wondering is it safe for the machine and the person as well?Is it safe to use shampoo replacing as a detergent?
It's fine.

I've done that back in the day, when I ran out of laundry soap. I've also used dishsoap, too.Is it safe to use shampoo replacing as a detergent?
It won't hurt the person but it will the machine. Very strange.
It is possible to use for delicates, and also for stains which are either oily or sweaty. Using this as a substitute all the time for whole loads of wash isn't recommended, since it may not rinse completely out. If you've run out of laundry detergent, why not? Just until you can get to the store, or if funds are low, go ahead and use it.
Doesnt sound safe to me at all.Shampoo was made for the hair and not for your clothes or your washing mashine
Hmmm....May not be recommended for the washing machine it may end up causing damage.

I have used Suave clarifying shampoo on a very difficult comforter with micro suede fabric that had grease stains on it. Once that came out I went back to using All Free %26amp; Clear detergent.

It may cause skin irritations....and some allergic reactions. Might give one dry skin or a rash too.

Could leave a residue on the items washed. Not good for the care of some fabrics.

it is safe but not a good idea washers are not made for using shampoo in them and you clothes wont be fully clean.
shampoo is a highly foaming detergent. If used in a front loader it will cause the mach to fail to work properly and could void your warranty/service plan. In a top loader it won't suds as much but won't allow your machine to properly rinse and pump out the water completely. It is just like using to much soap in your load. Use only recommended detergent for your machine. HE for high efficiency machines and reg for normal older machines.
