Dog shampoo safe for cat?

My cat had fleas and I sent my roommate out to get some shampoo. (we also gave him a cap star from the vet and administered frontline.) We wanted to wash all the dead fleas and eggs off. After his bath, I looked at the label more carefully and it says ';do not use on cats'; in small red letters on the back. He seems fine - has dried himself off and licked his fur for a couple of hours after. I'll call the vet tomorrow unless anyone here thinks I should call sooner. We used Sentrypro Flea and Tick Shampoo for Dogs and Puppies.Dog shampoo safe for cat?
I don't see why it would hurt. If you can use it on puppies it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Just watch for excessive scratching. Good LuckDog shampoo safe for cat?
Well, the damage is done I guess, just the one application of dog shampoo shouldn't be very bad for the cat, however, I would suggest you call a 24 hour emergency Vet hospital and ask them what you should do just to be on the safe side. Probably the cat will be fine if you are sure you rinsed all of the shampoo off. Just keep an eye on your cat. I hope everything works out Ok.
If it says don't use on cats then DON'T USE ON CATS!
don't even think about it.

it can make cats very sick giving them paralysis, seizures and can be fatal if left untreated

BIG NO NO.

wonder
Dog shampoo can have tea tree oil in it which is ok on dogs, but very toxic to cats.

Check the label again and if it's got this, contact the vet.
Well, i think its okay since your cat got nothing wrong. The label said that is just for precautions, sort.

Don't worry, its cool.
There is a chemical in dog flea and tick products that is LETHAL to cats. You need to, at the VERY least, call a vet to seek further instruction.

Because cats are such detailed groomers, I would be willing to bet that your cat has ingested some of the shampoo residue.

Edit: The chemical is called permethrin and can be fatal to cats.

How long ago did the vet administer Frontline? You may have washed it off by bathing her as you have to wait a time before you can get them wet.

This cat needs to see a vet ASAP. It's totally overloaded on flea control products. They may not even be compatible with each other!!!!
you will make that cat very mean if you keep doing that
Since it said ';puppies'; too, I would worry about having to call the vet tonight.

But I would call in the morning.

You really need to make sure you get a cat shampoo for cats...the other ones could be too harsh on the cats.

Just call the vet in the morning.

Make sure you rinsed the cat really good too.

Good luck :)
You do not need to use Frontline and Capstar at the same time- that is not good for the cat. Pick one medicine and stick with it. Also, dogs and cats have very different skin types so it isn't good to use dog shampoo on cats; however, the cat should be fine- it will most likely severly dry and irritate the cat's skin.
I would be more concerned about the fact you used Capstar AND Advantage. Plus, I'm unsure if Advantage is water proof.......if not, you just washed it off.

I would definitely contact the vet ASAP and tell them everything that's written here. They'll know if you went overboard or not.
Never use dog products on cats or cat products on dogs. You could cause serious irreversible damage to your pet. Cats and dogs have different systems. You need to keep a close eye on him and call the vet in the morning and get him checked out, maybe some blood work to verify everything is ok.
Just use cat shampoo! Why do people want to use dog shampoo on their cats!?
I think you've got the message by now. People are being heavy because cat's are so commonly killed by accidentally having dog products put on them.

You shouldn't have actually bathed the cat at all however, because you've just rendered the Frontline useless. It needs 24-48 hours before it's waterproof. You've also washed off the natural oils from the skin that Frontline requires to work. Wait at least 48 hours, and reapply the Frontline. Make sure it gets on the skin of the cat, not the fur. To do this you'll probably have to put it in at least 3 different places on the back of his neck. After, you can use a flea comb to remove dead fleas and flea dirts, and your cat will also groom them off himself. Don't bath him.

Is it safe to use scented baby lotions/shampoo/baby wash?

i gave my baby her first sponge bath an used huggies sweet pea lotion, it seems kind of strong for a baby, it is for a baby!Is it safe to use scented baby lotions/shampoo/baby wash?
';Safe'; is a subjective term. Do you mean is it going to hurt their eyes? Or does it contain strong chemicals that might cause cancer??

With babies (all humans really) it's best to use the mildest soaps you can find. Organic is best. Try to avoid ones that have ';sodium laureth ulfate'; in them, and any that say ';perfume, or fragrance'; as that is so generic it could be anything.

There are lots of more natural and organic options out there, maybe try one of them.

  • Is it safe to give a cat a bath with baby shampoo!?

Yes. You dont need to bathe a cat very often since they do clean themselves, but if you like to and dont have any cat shampoo around, baby shampoo is actually a very good alternative. Is it safe to give a cat a bath with baby shampoo!?
Your welcome, and glad she looks and feels great =0) Report Abuse
Is it safe to give a cat a bath with baby shampoo!?
Yes, but keep it out of the cat's eyes. As long as you're going through all the pain of giving the cat a bath, it's summertime, why not go get cat flea shampoo instead.
It's always best to use pet shampoos on your pet. If you must use something else, use a mild dishwashing liquid. Human shampoos can dry your cat's skin out.

Washing a cat should only be done if they are very dirty. Cats tend to keep themselves very clean on their own.
It's best to use pet shamppo, even baby shampoo is really too strong for pets. In an emergency, go for it.

But for more common bathing you really do need pet shampoo.
Yes, but it might claw you to death.
Its best to use a shampoo that is specifically designed for cats as they have many natural oils in their coats that may be stripped away using human shampoo, causing skin problems. Baby shampoo will work in a pinch though...if you absolutely must bathe your cat.
the cat will be fine but you might bleed to death from bites and clawing
cats clean them selfs. Why would you want to wash your cat?
The cat will hate you, but yes.
Yes it is.But you need to know how to handle the cat when you wash it.
Sure, just don't get it in kitty's eyes. Some cats hear the running water and think it's another cat hissing. So get the tub or what you use full before bringing kitty in. Clip the claws back, and get ready for a kitty fight! MEOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWW ! RIP! SHRED ! WHY did you DO this to me!? Then kitty will look like a drowned rat. Good luck, wear a long sleeve shirt and GLOVES - Yes I mean GLOVES and get em wet. Not rubber gloves - THICK cloth ones.
Yes, but you might find baby bath easier to rinse out; dilute either with warm water in a jug before putting it on to her fur.
It will work if your cat has to have a bath Baby shampoos contain an ingredient that numbs the eyes making the suds sting less, but they strip essential oils from animals coats. Baby shampoo is just shampoo with an eye number.

    I wouldn't use cat shampoo.

    But watered down Kitten shampoo.

Because their skin is very sensitive.

Or you can go too a vet and find a rat shampoo, if there are any.

Just don't use any of it on ears and head.

Mix clover into her meals, its a natural pesticide.

    Hope this helps your rattie.

Is it healthy/safe to mix shampoo? (Selsun Blue and Garnier Fructis conditioner)?

It is healthy/safe to use Selsun Blue as a shampoo, and Garnier Fructis Conditioner? Also, is it okay to go:

One day: Selsun Blue / Garnier Fructis Conditioner

Next day: Garnier Shampoo / Garnier Conditioner

And keep on switching? Is it healthy/safe to mix shampoo? (Selsun Blue and Garnier Fructis conditioner)?
Of course it's safe to mix shampoos and conditioners.

I've found my hair is actually healthier when I mix up my shampoos and conditioners. Use one combo of shampoos/conditioners for a couple days, then switch. Is it healthy/safe to mix shampoo? (Selsun Blue and Garnier Fructis conditioner)?
It is safe to mix shampoo with another conditioner. But you hair will come out smelling 2 different things, but it's all right. You can keep on switching if you want too. It's all up to you really.
    Yes, totally safe.
Of course! I do the same thing! I mix mane 'n tail and gliss kur. Since the mane shampoo and conditioner left my hair really thick feeling and coarse I mixed it with gliss kur (shampoo=total repair, conditioner=liquid silk) which leaves my so silky but makes my already thin hair flat. The result? Thick feeling hair that looked and felt like silk! (all I did was put a doulop of each shampoo and a doulop of each conditioner and put them in!) So unless you are using a shampoo for medical reasons (it would have chemicals) it will be ok.

I shampoo my hair everyday, is that safe? Will my hair fall out wen im older? Is there a safe one i can use?

I hope it's safe, I wash mine everyday. Of course, I have oily hair--hence the washing Every day-- so if you tend to have dry hair, you can rub--I know this sounds gross-- egg yolk or mayonnaise in it. I shampoo my hair everyday, and it's fine.

For some people, it may just dry it out though. Your hair won't fall out, and the only consequence is that your hair may get dryI shampoo my hair everyday, is that safe? Will my hair fall out wen im older? Is there a safe one i can use?
if ur hair is too clean...u can get lice
No, they say you shouldn't do it just to give your hair a break, and it just healthy, but I wash mine everyday and even though idealy you shouldn't, I have to but it doesnt result in anything like hair falling out or anytihng
seriously dude use the search engine before you ask questions like this
    no, ur totally fine.
you SHOULD NOT shampoo your hair everyday, it strips your hair of the natural oils it needs to stay healthy!
I think it depends on the length and how oily/dry my hair is. When my hair was long, I could only wash it every 3 days. Now that I have short hair, I wash it every day. Also, if you use a lot of gel or mousse you have to wash it more. Sunsilk No Major Issues shampoo, Dove Cool Moisture, and Herbal Essences Drama Clean are some good ones.
That's safe. It's fine for your hair unless it seems like it's damaging it. It will only damage it if your hair is not used to being washed everyday
This should be safe. Massage aloe Vera gel over the scalp, leave it for about one hour. After this rinse the hair with warm water. It gives excellent results for hair loss if one uses this massage at least 3-4 times a week. Check out

  • Is it safe to use human shampoo on cats??

No it is not safe to use human shampoo on cats. we have a different PH to out skin then cats do and when we use our shampoo on their skin it will dry their skin out very drastically. Is it safe to use human shampoo on cats??
For a once in awhile application, it should be fine, but cats skin are different Ph than a human's skin. So using a humane shampoo regularly could actually dry out your cats skin. Its better to get the shampoo made for pets from a petstore.

Other thing to be concerned about - human shampoo is made to be rinsed out of the hair. If you can't get all the shampo out of your cat, he could lick himself, ingest the shampoo, and end up being poisoned or sick from human shampoo. Is it safe to use human shampoo on cats??
I have heard of using human shampoo on dogs, but not on cats. Either way, you shouldn't do it. you should buy some pet shampoo from a pet store, or from the vet. To get rid of fleas, you should use flea powder, or flea medicine from your vet, but not human shampoo. It can irritate the cats sensitive skin.
I responded to your other question about puppy shampoo and hold firm to my answer. Stick to something from the Vet. But if you are really in a bind and are trying to clean off something nasty - try a small amount of Johnson's Tearless Baby Shampoo or Dawn Dish Detergent. And rinse well - avoiding the eyes and ears. And Never blow dry - they can over heat.

    Good Luck.
it's not recommended for cats/animals. i wouldn't. so wait and get feline shampoo at the store. but if yur in a desperate situation and need to use it right away for some reason, it will be alright. be sure to rinse the cat real well.
Ask yourself this. Would I use cat shampoo on my hair? Probably not, their skin and fur are different from ours. Stick with a shampoo designed for cats.
If is all you have on hand, it is not going to be hazardous to his health. A good alternative is baby shampoo.
NO it's not. My GF works at an animal hospital (vet) and there are specific kinds of shampoo that you need to get for animals or you will dry out their skin
I seriously doubt it even know animal shampoo cost a lot you rather be safe then sorry
Yes it is my daughter is a vet and she says it fine as long as you only use a small amount
Yes ... just MAKE SURE to rince throughly.

What is the best and safest cat shampoo brand?

I was told that different coat colors need different kind of shampoo. I also heard that a good cat shampoo is the one that is made only for cats, not for cats and dogs. Is it true? I have a silver Persian cat, so what's the best and safest brand?

Persians are wonderful cats, aren't they?

Cats should not be bathed too often. They groom themselves, although Persians seem to often forget that! It can dry them out too much and also lead to more shedding and more matting, particularly with that Persian double coat!

The best grooming is brushing for a Persian. If you find that you have one that does not clean their feet, face or butt, you can address those specific areas instead of bathing the entire cat.

For feet, those wipes they make for babies work great. Brush the feet to remove any loose litter and then wipe with those wipes until clean. Take a clean cloth with just water and wipe off any of the cleaner. Although the cleaner is safe, the taste may discourage kitty from grooming her feet. Leaving them wet will encourage her to groom them dry.

For face, they make some wonderful NATURAL cleaners. You can get them in towels, drops, pads, just about anything. I like the towels for persians so you can get into those little crevices by the face.

For the butt, I use a hygeine clip. I shave the butt area close and about 1-2'; up the tail. This gets those fluffy butts clear of the potty mess. Baby wipes also work there, again, washing off with damp towel. But I suggest drying the butt as much as possible, no one like a wet booty.

Groom kitty daily, her fur will stay wonderfully clean and silky. At most I bathe my Persians twice a year with this maintenance.
Depending on where you live perhaps you can get Dawn Dishwashing Liquid? It is safe and effective for cats and even kittens as well as being inexpensive. It is also an effective flea killer and deterrent.

  • Are color safe shampoos and conditioners better for your hair regardless if you colored your hair or not?

i was just wondering because it has extra protein so shouldn't it be better for your hair than regular shampoo and conditioner? Are color safe shampoos and conditioners better for your hair regardless if you colored your hair or not?
    Cosmetologist here.

I will tell you that I use a sulfate free shampoo that is especially for color treated hair...and wow it has really made my color last a lot longer.

I have no doubt that these products are better for whatever type of hair you would use on as long as they are professional kind...which would in turn be ph balanced.

Sulfate free shampoos means basically they are made with the mildest amount of surfactant/cleanser you can put in shampoo. Very gentle...but I will tell you they are not a bubbly as the others if that matters to you.

Hope my advice has been useful!!Are color safe shampoos and conditioners better for your hair regardless if you colored your hair or not?
I should try the Joico Line- specifically KPAC. My hair lady swears by it and so do I- she got me hooked about 4 years ago. They do have protein in them- the intensive mask is really good too ; )
They are just more gentle. So yes, unless you have very oily hair a color safe shampoo is great for everyone. Shampoo molecules go into the hair shaft, attach themselves to molecules of dirt and oil, and wash out. So shampoo cleans hair, that is all it does. Drugstore conditioner, color safe or not is crap, so avoid it. There is no point to a color safe conditioner unless your hair is colored, unlike the shampoo.

Is it safe to use mayonnaise as shampoo?

you know, i have heard that you CAN use it in a product ( i goggled it and a lot of the blue said conditioner ) but i would do some research. Is it safe to use mayonnaise as shampoo?
Its safe...and it has been used for years to condition hair....it has both egg and oil in it which is thought to help repair damaged hair....I have used it myself years ago....the real draw back is that it is very oily and hard to rinse out....you will have to shampoo it out,,,Is it safe to use mayonnaise as shampoo?
It's not unsafe, but it isn't going to clean your hair. Actually, the eggs in the mayo will condition your hair. Mayo is really a hair conditioner, not a shampoo.
Yes it is. But use it with egg. My mom did that to mine once and it made it shiny and soft. then wash it out as best as you can.

    :D
    Hi there,

It is not only safe it is very healthy. The only thing is that its hard to get out you have to wash VERY good.

    Good Luck :)
Yes its safe and I hear its really good to moisturize your hair. But make sure you wash it a couple of times so you don't start to smell like spoiled food. I also hear eggs are good for your hair it makes it shiny
NO - But you can use it as conditioner after you shampoo put it in your hair and then rinse out.

Mayo will not clean your hair, I has an oil consistency to it.
It's safe :3 but it doesn't clean your hair , it's used as a conditioner :P eggs also make ur hair shiny :D
It is safe, but that doesn't mean it will actually get your hair clean.
    yes it safe

Would it be safe to bath our dog using human shampoo?

In studies performed at several laboratories, it has been shown that dog shampoo and human shampoo are very little different..I will post a link to show you. Anyway, I have several LONG haired, huge dogs, and bathe them all in Fructis, and I use Fructis conditioner.. It keeps them lovely and their hair easy to manage..and no dry skin or flakes...I recenly had 2 of them done at the groomers, and they are both itchy and flaky..so I need to re-do it at home. .Next time I will take the groomer my shampoo..lol

We dog owners have bought into the marketing hype, and have created a huge market for pet shampoos, just as we did for the well advertised dog foods. It keeps the industry happy.

This from Dr. Mike, DVM: http://www.vetinfo.com/dhair.html#Shampo鈥?/a>

    Question: Dear Dr Mike,

I have searched your site and the only references to bathing or shampoo I

can find have to do with skin problems. Do you see any problem with using

';people'; shampoo on dogs, especially if it's a premium type like that sold

in hair salons? Our dog does not have any type of skin or fur problems.

    Thanks, RTV

    Answer: RTV-

I saw a study once, which I couldn't find to supply the reference for,

which was a review of the ingredients of various pet and people shampoos,

as well as a test of factors like pH and eye irritation. In the study, the

authors could find no significant differences between pet shampoos and

people shampoos. So I tell my clients to use whatever they like, or have on

    hand.

I am sure that some shampoos work better on any particular dog than others

but that the brands that work well for that one dog may not be the best for

    another dog.

I think that this information is probably also true for conditioners but

have not seen any reviews of the various conditioners to prove or disprove

that.Would it be safe to bath our dog using human shampoo?
Yes but use conditioner as well, because it can make the dog's skin dry !!Would it be safe to bath our dog using human shampoo?
only as a last resort if you dont have any dog/puppy shampoo but use baby shampoo.
No human shampoo will dry out the skin. Only ever use a dog shampoo because it is PH balance for the dogs skin. Our shampoo removes to many of the oils from the dogs coat cause itching and irritation.

This came right from a web sight called a world for pet care:

    Qoute:

While many do use human shampoos on their dogs, it is better not to. Human skin is more acidic than dog skin, and dog and cat skins are much thinner than that of a human. Other differences exist too, all of which means that for the optimum health of your pet鈥檚 skin, you should use shampoos designed for pets, not humans, when bathing your pets.
No. But the best shampoo I have ever found is called Bio-Groom. It's a horse shampoo! But it got rid of the 'hot spot' my dog had for years. It also has a built in flea protection, and leaves his coat so shiny that people ask me what I use on him. He's a black lab.

Good luck..oh, you should be able to find it at a 'Feed Store.'
I've used human bubble bath soap on my dogs in lieu of doggie shampoo when we've run out, just make sure you don't get any water or soap into their eyes or ears. If you want to be extra careful, use baby shampoo.
I've used Johnson and Johnson ';No More Tears'; baby shampoo on my Pomeranian. It's very gentle and it makes him smell so good! My vet even gave me the ok, because the dog shampoo I was using was too harsh.
Yes... I use conditioner on my dog. Makes her smell pretty!
The whole purpose of having seperate shampoos for dogs and for humans is because our skin if different. A dogs skin is about 4 times more sensitive than human skin. Using a shampoo for humans on dogs will dry out their skin, causing itching and flaking. Many people use ';baby'; shampoo and claim they see no difference. But why take the risk?
I used to use strawberry shampoo on my dog, and she lived to be twelve. If you use human shampoo, use conditioner, too.
no!!!!! Their skin is different, their hair is different, their oils are different. You need dog shampoo, b/c if you use human shampoo their skin may become very irritated and they may scratch themselves to the point of bleeding
Any type of baby shampoo, these have less harsh chemicals and wont soak thru you pets coat. Shampoos for adults have more added chemilcals and fragrances which will irritate your animals coat......if you must you adult shampoo use castile....
No, it's not a good idea. You need to use a shampoo made for dogs.
No, human shampoos have an entirely different PH level. Also the perfumes and other additives can cause an allergic reaction.
NO! It is the wrong pH. It will do more harm than good.
Baby shampoo would be best, or ';Dawn'; dish detergent
My aunt uses baby shampoo on all of her dogs, puppies and ferrits and they are all in great health. I don't see what's wrong with it so go ahead!
Never use human products on your pets. A dog's skin has a different ph from ours and scented products can cause other dogs to attack your dog because of the ';odd'; smell.

Years ago in New York dog perfume became a fad until dog attacks rose dramatically. I personally have known a dog whose owners bathed it in Pert shampoo (cause they liked the smell) and whose dog was continually attacked. They switched to a dog shampoo and their dog had no more troubles.

Catwalk TIGI, Fashionista, Shampoo safe for colour. good?

is it any good? is it expensive? was given shampoo and conditioner as a freebie from my tutor (from a SATC gift bag, hes a production company). xxxCatwalk TIGI, Fashionista, Shampoo safe for colour. good?
I use to work as a junior in a hair salon and I loved the tigi products! Although there expensive they really do work well with your hair as Ive bought many of the products you can get. The shampoo works well with coloured hair and also smells really nice i think its work the money as it leaves your hair shiney, silky and smelling good!

What types of human shampoo's are safe to use on cats?

besides baby shampooWhat types of human shampoo's are safe to use on cats?
NONE! If it's not labeled for cats don't use it- that includes baby shampoo! Cats are very sensitive to many ingredients in shampoo.

Dawn dish soap is very drying. It's a great one time treatment for quickly getting rid of fleas (an old shelter trick) but is the last thing that should be used on a regular basis. What types of human shampoo's are safe to use on cats?
I would highly suggest using shampoo formulated for cats only. If you must use a shampoo that is not formulated for cats on an animal, I would suggest T-Gel because it's mild and is often used to treat fungal infections on animals.
You really shouldnt use any human shampoo on cats. Baby shampoo is ok sometimes but most human shampoos arent mild enough it could kill your cat.

Buy some cat shampoo at the dollar store or walmart it isnt to expensive
Dawn dishwashing soap. Many cat caretakers will use this on kittens who are to young for flea shampoo. DO NOT use antibacterial soap on a cat, however.
something that is very very mild, and i know you said ''besides baby shampoo'' but thats a good idea in a small amount, or just get some cat shampoo tomorrow, its not expensive
normally, any type of kid's shampoo works beause its very mild......

Is it safe to use mane and tail shampoo and conditioner everyday?

yes you should be fine, i use it all the time =]Is it safe to use mane and tail shampoo and conditioner everyday?
I used to use it (both the shampoo and conditioner) every shower (about every other day) and I have waist-length hair, and I had no problems with it.

It didn't dry my hair out, my hair didn't fall out, and I tend to leave shampoo in for a couple minutes and really lather with it. It kept my hair in excellent condition. I only stopped using it because I have a hard time finding it, but I would recommend it.Is it safe to use mane and tail shampoo and conditioner everyday?
    Of course it is:)

I use it everyyyday, and have been for the last six months, and my hair is healthier and longer than ever. It makes my hair longer and gives it a lot of volume which is what I want! :) So it's fine to use both shampoo and conditioner everyday, I would know! And idk why some ppl are saying that's it's bad...I have neverrr lost hair, or shine, or anything because of using it.
Yes. I used it in high school all the time. It was all I ever used.

I never had any problems.. and I always got compliments on my hair.. and it was always so soft and shiny.

They say that you shouldn't wash your hair every day anyway. I was mine every other day. But Mane and Tail isn't heavy in chemicals like other shampoo.. so you should fine.. and like I said, it never damaged my hair.. I've had problems with washing my hair everyday with Herbal Essence.. but never with mane and tail : ) Do those horse manes looks okay to you? : )
No. Main and tail shampoo is designed for horses.

It would be better for you har if you got a shampoo for chemically treated hair and a conditioner.

I have been a licensed cosmetologist for 30 years.

    Hope this helps.
I have to say I don't recommend it. It could strip your hair of its natural oils, causing split ends or worse. Ethnically if you are of Euro ancestry I would say you can get away with washing your hair every other day. Use conditioner often.
Well it's safe but not exactly healthy. When you shampoo and condition your hair every single day, you strip your hair of its natural oils that keep it shiny and healthy. Wash and condition every other day.
no,is not good to using every day becase maiking your hair dry.
    mane and tail is awesome

    I don't think you'll have problems

I use it on my horses and I use the Hair Strengthener on myself and am pleased with the results.
Unless it is a damage control shampoo, no.

    The conditioner is okay though
well shampooing everyday kills your hair................ conditioner is good tho
Yes to the conditioner no to the shampoo it will make your hair fall out!
people say that you're supposed to let the natural oil in your hair let it do its thing, buts sure. its fine
Not if your hair is protein sensitive.
    sure it is.
i think so. my friend does

  • What kind of horse shampoo is safe for human use?

I use the brand Maine %26amp; Tail..look it up online or google it. It works very well and leaves hair soft and very conditioned...excellent for long hair and does not leave a waxy texture. What kind of horse shampoo is safe for human use?
Main and Tail. However, it is not recommended for use on human hair it is only safe. Main and Tail conditioner will not penetrate human hair. As for the shampoo you can use it but it will be like using dish soap on your hair (dry it out). If you are looking for something cheap and you don't have hair that requires much work and is not dry, coarse, thick, curly, colored, or long hair you can use suave. If you have hair like I listed above then you will have to spend some money and get a good quality name brand product or you will just be throwing your money away trying to find something that works. My b/f just doesn't understand that if I don't use a shampoo and conditioner that is good unfortunately that means expensive my hair gets dry, frizzes, takes 3 or 4 times longer to comb out, then it brakes off. It looks like I'm shedding because you will find it every where. Then it really really frizzes because of all the breakage makes it look like my hair is sticking our every where. I think it makes me look like I don't take care of myself because it looks like I just got out of bed. Ulta is a good place to look for shampoo and conditioners cuz they carry the expensive stuff and the cheaper stuff and ones you don't ever see in the stores. What kind of horse shampoo is safe for human use?
ummmm.....why not buy HUMAN shampoo? just wondering...
mane n tail..it's a horse shampoo that works well in human..thickens your hair make it shinier and healthier looking
    I use Flicka or Fury

    they are both my friends

Is baby shampoo safe for permed hair?

Yes, probably the safest, the least harsh. Is baby shampoo safe for permed hair?
any shampoo is good for permed hair although if this is your first time washing your hair after the perm was done then but some shampoo that is mild or lightly scented. Is baby shampoo safe for permed hair?
Why the heck did you perm your babies hair????
    probably.
    yes
I asked the same question for colored hair from the company and the company answered that it was safe for all kinds of treated hair. The baby shampoo is very gentle, so I would use it.
    Yeah, I heard it was!
Yes it's very gentle. But I would opt for something specially designed for permed hair because the baby shampoos are gentle and not irritating but they won't do much in repairing the damaged hair and keep up the curls. Using a shampoo for permed hair can make the curls last longer and the hair have more volumn.
it's safe enough for babies... I don't think you have to worry about permed hair. It's the most mild shampoo you could get, don't ya think?
    yes it is
No, you need to stay away from baby shampoo. You really need a moisturizing shampoo for a perm. Or, even a perm rejuvinating shampoo to prolong the perm.

Baby shampoo is very mild and is designed for fine, thin hair. It is not strong enough for adults.

I have really oily hair, but I need a shampoo that is color-safe. Help?

Hi! So basically, I just dyed my hair and I need a shampoo that won't make my hair gross and not clean it well but can still protect the color. Any suggestions?I have really oily hair, but I need a shampoo that is color-safe. Help?
From my experience, I've found John Frieda range to be the best for colored hair.

I've had my hair dark blonde, very very light blonde and light brown. John Frieda has a shampoo%26amp; conditioner set to match most hair colors (even a set for different shades of blonde). It's non color depositing also.

My hair at the moment is very very light blonde, and I used to get a very brassy yellowish/gold tinge to my hair, but I switched shampoos and used a bit of purple toner and it helped a bunch.

On the other hand, you could find a brand that is color depositing (which I think would do more harm than good, with all the chemicals in the color).

Just try a few brands if you can while you're at friends houses and find one that suits your hair. :)I have really oily hair, but I need a shampoo that is color-safe. Help?
    Yes!

    ';Drama Clean';

    By Herbal essences.

Its in the green bottle, grab the shampoo and the conditioner.

it leaves your hair lightweight, clean, healthy, and smelling great!

Also, try avon ';fresh hair extender'; just spray a little, and brush your hair and it absorbs the oils leaving fresh hair behind. :) Great for inbetween shampoos.

    Avoid- Shine sprays.

For Hairspray, try dove. :) it gives it a natural look and feel while keeping hair in place and not greasing up your hair. Good luck
Just use a little baby powder its so awesome smells good lasts long and makes your hair soft so before you go out put some in your hand and rub throughout your hair but while its dry not wet and its color safe so dont bother on the worthless expensive shampoo and stuff

Is it safe to use gentle shampoo(surfactant based) daily?

If you use shampoo regularly you may loose your hair.

    Avoid shampoos.

    Try natural products

You can find better shampoo that does not have those two ingredients in them.

Is garnier shampoo safe for dyed hair?

There are certain shampoos that are for colored/dyed hair.

Look on the bottle and see if it says that.Is garnier shampoo safe for dyed hair?
Yes, but I would suggest reading the back of a bottle of the shampoo you want, it will say ';safe for chemically treated hair'; and if it says that you're good to go, but I would also suggest getting a shampoo and conditioner especially for colored hair.Is garnier shampoo safe for dyed hair?
They make several types of shampoo and I'm sure at least one of them is for colored hair.

  • Is it Safe to use Body Soap as Shampoo?

For about a year now, I had a Scalp/Head Odor. It smells very sour.

And I heard people on messageboards saying that they tried Dial Anti-Bacteria Body Wash to wash their hair and it worked.

So I was wondering if it was safe to use Body Soap as a Shampoo. Will it ';Over-dry'; my scalp? Will it do any sort of damage?

Thanks in advance. Is it Safe to use Body Soap as Shampoo?
It will strip your hair and scalp of natural oils. Shampoos have a certain PH balance that is made for hair - if you use skin products on hair, it will leave your scalp flaky and your hair frizzy.

Maybe your scalp has some kind of infection that could be causing the odor? Try using a dandruff shampoo, which kills the bacteria that cause infections in the scalp. Is it Safe to use Body Soap as Shampoo?
hi , humm... no the body soap wont hurt your hair but it will dry it out after awhile. if u find that its the only thing that helps maybe you could just use it every other time instead of everytime. Im a hairdresser and when this happends in my shop the best thing that i finds that really makes a differance is Paul Michells Tea Tree shampoo and contitionar. Its really minty smell and feel to it, it really cleans your scalp and hair and leaves it with a fresh tingalie feel to it. they also have a hole bunch of styling products that are tea tree aswell that i really like too. You can find the product probibly any salon that sells paul mitchell. but anyway !.. thats what i would try first before the soap thing :o) - Hope i hellped ;o) - Rachel
soap is usually a detergent...makes LOTS of lather...lots of lather = DRYNESS....

if you have a problem with your head...maybe what you need is FRAGRANCE FREE shampoo and conditioner. (google for it..I have some and it's wonderful.) or see a dermatologist.
they have soaps that are also shampoo like an all in one thing

    this is an example

    http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.j鈥?/a>
I tryed that before DO NOT DO IT it messes up your scalp and it makes it itchy for like 3 weeks so yea dont do that man
It'll usually make your hair really oily.

But you can try it, it's not going to ruin your hair.
It may ';over-dry'; your scalp, no further damages.

Try it, if you like it, keep using it once a week.

    xxx.
    I'm sure its safe.

Its not designed for hair but It will clean it. It might not do all of those other fancy stuff that special shampoos are supposed to do but I'm sure its fine.
VARY bad idea! Don't try it ...I've seen ppl who have and at the end they're hair was ruined so it's a bad idea i suggest you don't attempt it.
yes its safe. when i was little my granny made me use dawn dish soap cause she didn't have shampoo (old ladies go to the salon like once a week lol)
prolly not too much damage y not get shampoo for 3 dollars

its safe but may get dandruff
It will over dry your hair...soap lacks the vitamin E that your hair needs.
some soaps are ok but others arent' dial is ok to wash hair with
    shuree
    yes
its not unsafe but just buy shampoo much better results.ur cool
well what shampoo and conditioner do you use??

in one of my classes i learnt that many ppl are allergic to sulfates. now most shampoos are made of sulfates... so is kinda a vicious cycle. that could be a factor. does ur scalp itch? is it gooey?

personally i wouldnt use body soap in my hair.... it will dry your hair out.... like the ph of ur hair is a 4.5 - 5 so you should use a shampoo that carries the same ph... you can find that on the back of the bottle.

have you ever seen the volcano sience projects w/ vinegar and baking soda? one is acidic the other alkaline... it explodes. so that chemical reaction on your hair is no bueno

dial soap or body soap is more basic than shampoos cuz there is more lye in them... and even most shampoos are basic (or alkaline) themselves. that is why you never see the ph on the bottles of shampoo at walmart.

if i was you i would go to your local salon and ask for a scalp treatment... or if there r n e beauty schools near by cuz it will be cheaper for you and give the students credit. at my beauty school we offer them for like $9.00. and they feel sooooo good.

try geting some enjoy rejuvinateing sulfate free shampoo

it has tea tree oil in it and tingles and helps out ur scalp. i love that stuff... but it is expensive... maybe try the shampoo ';maine and tail';. is cheaper. you can get it at sally's beauty supply... that shampoo is a bit stronger too so a little bit goes a long way.

you should probably grab some clarifying spray too. it will help get rid of mineral buildup in ur hair and scalp too.

    i hope i could help.

Is it safe to use human shampoo on a 4 mos old kitten?

I have a four month old kitten. And I was using flea shampoo on her because it said that you could use it if they were up to 12 weeks of age or older and when I called the vet to ask about her fleas (which she shouldn't have had because I was giving her the bath) the vet told me that I shouldn't use that shampoo or the flea collars. So I stopped using that. But now she kind of smells. So I was wondering if it would be safe to use my shampoo on her just for the time being. I know that it's not formulated for kittens or cats, and it's not medicated. But I really have to do something about her smell. So if anyone knows the answer to this (and has some kind of back up explaining where you got this information....) it would be so helpful.

Thank you...and I look forward to your help!!Is it safe to use human shampoo on a 4 mos old kitten?
I've used baby shampoo on one of my kittens and it smelled great. Flea shampoo is okay, but doesn't really work against fleas- neither do the collars. If the kitten's over 2 lbs, you should get her some kitten advantage or something for after her bath. I almost always bathe my cats with the flea shampoos; even though they don't work for fleas, they work for bad smells. Regular human shampoo can dry out a cat's skin. If she's extra stinky, your local petsmart might have some deshedding shampoo for cats- that's what we use at work.Is it safe to use human shampoo on a 4 mos old kitten?
My friend uses a gentle baby shampoo for the cats as it smell nice and is gentle. And if it ever gets into the cat's eyes, it should not irritate as it is of tear-free formulation. The cats smell really nice after that. (Cats do not really have smell, in the first place.) You might want to try out pet wipes to wipe your kitten and also change the litter regularly so that she doesn't dirty herself while pooping or peeing. It doesn't sound like too good an idea to use your shampoo on her though...
Antigone is absolutely right. Kittens shouldn't smell unless she has gotten into something and rolled in it. People shampoo is hard on a cat's skin and should be avoided. Try just rinsing her off with warm water and seeing if that doesn't help. Maybe rub in a little dry oatmeal first. I would take her to the Vet and see what is causing the smell, that is not normal for a kitten
Cats shouldn't smell. They clean themselves and you shouldn't have to bathe her. I have never bathed my cats. And kittens should not be given flea collars or medication if they don't have them. It weakens their immune systems. Is she rolling in stuff or is her litter box clean? Do not shampoo her with anything. Perhaps you are just super sensitive to something?
I don't know if it is safe, but we use people shampoo on my cats all the time, I have had cats all my life, and they are all and have been healthy.
I think if you used a gentle baby shampoo it would be okay.

Is dry shampoo safe for coloured hair?

I use Lee Stafford dry shampoo and have coloured hair and it has never made any difference to the colour.

It contains talc which greys the hair a little but you rub this away anyway so the colour is the same as always. Is dry shampoo safe for coloured hair?
Yes it is safe for use, but if you have dark brown it will fade it. If you are BLEACHED blonde you will find it darkens it slightly, and if a bottle blonde it will slightly darken it.

BUT you asked is it safe.... YES!Is dry shampoo safe for coloured hair?
Its fades the colour, you need to use coloured hair shampoo the best stuff is the BED HEAD products it cost abit but it really is great the colour last so much longer.
No, mum mums behind me screaming IT WILL MAKE IT FADE!!!

    so don't do it,,,,pleeease
    ya sure

Shampoo / soap safe for my guinea pig?

I really don't want to have to buy a shampoo from the pet store if I don't have to. What should I avoid when using my own shampoo or soap from home to bathe my guinea?Shampoo / soap safe for my guinea pig?
You can not use any human shampoo or soap products, they are wayy to harsh on a guinea pigs skin. Guinea pigs have very sensitive skin and washing to often or using the wrong shampoo can dry the skin out and irritate it.

Any small animal shampoo should be ok, I would recommend Bunny Bath by Four Paws. There is some helpful information on the following site (scroll down a bit):

    http://www.guinealynx.info/grooming.html

Washing should only be done if it is completely necessary, a good example would be a dirt bum in which case you could probably get away with doing a spot wash. When washing use luke warm water, so that it covers the feet, add the shampoo. Remember only wash from the neck down.

    ETA:

Even baby shampoos or soap products are too harsh on the skin, stick with small animal shampoo, even better do not wash at all.Shampoo / soap safe for my guinea pig?
if u dont want to buy the shampoo then i suggest u dont bathe him at all human shampoo will make thier skin all dry and flaky an dhe might get an infection
Do not use any kind of human shampoo on your pig. It is all too harsh, even baby shampoo. Only use small animal shampoo or kitten shampoo.

Don't bathe your pig unless you have to. If you cannot get any proper shampoo and you HAVE to bath your pig, just use warm water.
you won't kill your pet but it isn't healthy for him/her at all. Her/his coat/skin will come very dry and that can become an irrate for the piggie.
Buy baby shampoo, or soapless soap for babies with sensitive skin. It has a no tears formula (but avoid getting it in and around their face anyways.) Also, its very gentle. I use it for bathing my animals when I dont have time to run out to the vet or the pet store.
umm avoid lets see..GETTING IT IN THE EYES..n avoid the face...i dont think anything will matter use good smelling stuff =] hehee well if it starts squeeking rinse n rinse n dry it
use johnson %26amp; johnson no tear baby shampoo. or aything no-tear. That is what my vet told me when i had a guinea pig
No you will only end up killing your pet because it might and try to drink the soap or shampoo.
I always used baby shampoo. I wouldnt use your own shampoo cause it is harsh and if it accidently gets in his eyes that wouldnt be good. Just use regualr tear free baby shampoo.
Hehe... DON'T use soap from home... It killed my bunny!

Is it safe to store liquor in a conditioner (shampoo) bottle?

I'm going on a cruise and I'm going to smuggle some alcohol aboard. Of course I can't just bring the bottles, so I considered hiding it in a conditioner bottle. I've cleaned out the bottles extensively so now I'm just concerned about chemicals from the plastic seeping into the alcohol. Also I'd rather not get a lovely conditioner taste in the brandy/vodka.

I'm of age so it isn't about that. Drinks are going to be expensive so it would be nice to have a drink in the room before dinner and beers.

Any other suggestions? I can't use anything obvious (water/soda bottles, mouthwash), as they will all be screened and possibly checked when they luggage is Xrayed.

Boy this seems like more and more of a hassle. Is it safe to store liquor in a conditioner (shampoo) bottle?
They check your carry on luggage, but I don't think they check the main baggage that is delivered to your cabin

It would take too much time to have that done.

Put any smuggled stuff in your main luggage and hope for the best.

    Don't use a conditioner bottle....ewww

Got shampoo in my eye last night. When will it be safe to wear contacts?

I got shampoo in my eye when i was washing my hair yesterday around 3:45pm. The shampoo i used was Pantene Pro.

I decided not to wear my contacts (btw i wasnt wearing them in the shower) today since when i woke up i felt that my vision in my eye was a bit blurrier than usual. my mom says that its probably safe to wear them tomorrow, but i just wanted to see what other people think / know.Got shampoo in my eye last night. When will it be safe to wear contacts?
That shouldn't be a problem to wear them tomorrow at all.

You were wise not to try wearing them after...that would have really stung ! Shampoo really burns doesn't it.

Any soap residue will surely be gone tomorrow...Got shampoo in my eye last night. When will it be safe to wear contacts?
You should be able to wear them tomorrow.

P.s. ever got Denorex in your eyes? Now that burns. I got some on the cornea part above my lense (the eye, not contact) and I think I have a small, very small scar from it
ok well i wear my contacts in the shower all the time and never have problems even if i do get shampoo in them. but i get fuzzy all the time as well so its totally normal i think. if it was at night then your eyes had enough time to clean themselves when your eyes are closed so you should be totally fine with wearing your contacts when ever. (unless you have pink eye or something)

If they are not safe for colored hair then is there any that are alcohol free? Seems like everytime i find a color safe shampoo it has that ingredient in it or the conditioner does.If shampoo and conditioner doesn't say it is for colored hair, does that make it safe to use?
Have you tried professional shampoo and conditioner? I wouldn't suggest using anything you can purchase at any drugstore. Professional brands are highly concentrated so the higher price is related to that. You really don't have to use even half as much as with a drugstorebrand. Also, alcohol is not your problem. If you're having problems keeping color in your hair maybe you should try sulfate-free options like Kenra Platinum Shampoos and Conditioners or Healthy Sexy Hair Soy line.If shampoo and conditioner doesn't say it is for colored hair, does that make it safe to use?
Professional dandruff shampoos are less likely to fade color treated hair. Try Kenra or Redken Cleansing Cream, but only use twice a week. Report Abuse

The reason you should use colour shampoo and conditioner for dyed hair is because a typically normal shampoo could fade the colour and make it duller.

most shampoos and conditioners do this if not made with the right chemicals.

Ones with ';for coloured hair'; on them enhance your colour and lock it in!

    if using a normal shampoo i shouldn't worry about it..just once :)

    hope i helpted x
Honestly if you read the backs of all these shampoos n such a good deal of them will say safe for color treated hair. Although I have used expensive and cheap made for color treated hair products I don't see a difference in the wearing out of my hair color. It happens anyways and at the same rate whether I use color safe..not color safe... paul mitchell or finesse
i have no idea if it's alcohol free or not but match the color you dyed your hair with either the pantene or john frieda color expressions. those work incredibly well. my red hair that i had lasted 3 times as long than it usually did using those.
As long as you avoid clarifying shampoos or anti dandruff shampoos you can use pretty much whatever. I colour my hair and never really use a specially formulated shampoo and conditioner.
Most of them are. I think the color safe ones are just tricks to get us to spend more money.

What kind of shampoo can I use for dry scalp thats safe on colored hair?!?

I don't know what to do, I have really dry scalp and it flakes and itches, and then it scabs over and its so gross. The problem is I can't use dandruff shampoo like head %26amp; shoulders etc. because I highlight my hair and it will ruin the color and my regular color safe shampoo doesnt do anything for the dryness. What can I use??What kind of shampoo can I use for dry scalp thats safe on colored hair?!?
I don't know why Head and Shoulders ruins your color. Cause that's what I was using when I was highlighting my hair.

There's a whole line of this stuff...it's called Free and Clear. It's fine for color treated hair and is free of chemicals that cause your symptoms. It can be bought over the counter, but if you go to your local Walgreens, the pharmacy can order it for you if it's not on the shelf, and it's no more expensive than the rest. What kind of shampoo can I use for dry scalp thats safe on color treated hair?!?

Make a drink by blending bananas, honey, yogurt and low fat milk. This drink is rich in biotin and will help your hair to have strong roots.

Ensure your diet is rich in Vitamin B6, zinc and saw palmetto. Use supplements if you cannot get enough from natural food sources.

Bend your head while you are shampooing and massage your scalp. This will increase blood circulation to the scalp.

Get rid of stress and this is most dangerous for your lovely hair.

Get sufficient sleep. Like a healthy body, healthy hair too needs a good night's sleep

Look into using organic products they are alot better for you.

And they dont have harsh chemicals and other junk.
    yes, you can.
    no its not
I'm not so sure if it is safe or not, but there is something else for you.

Use a 1/8 cup of Borax ( It's like $2 at Kroger's) And mix it with a quart of water. Pour it on your hair till you think it's everywhere (it doesn't lather) Then rinse it out. Then use a 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid and mix it with water. Use this as a conditioner.

I have been using this for about a week. I no longer have my hair falling out and it's stronger, thicker, and my hair is staying clean for longer
Ugh, I have thin, oily hair also. I don't think people like us can get away with not shampooing every day. Ew! I stick to shampoos that are for clarifying or for extra volume. I also have my hair colored or highlighted at the salon here and there, as it seems to plump up the hair shaft and help eliminate the look of oiliness and flatness. I've tried grocery store color, but I think it causes breakage. But, yeah, go ahead and wash your hair every day! And know that you are definitely not alone! :)

Is Mane & Tail shampoo safe for the hair?

    yeah thats what its for

it strengthens your hair, makes it shiny, and sometimes thickerIs Mane %26amp; Tail shampoo safe for the hair?
Mane and tail is absolutely incredible. It makes your hair extremely soft, healthy, silky, and shiney! %26lt;3 I use it , and I straighten my hair everyday, and it made it so much more healthier.

%26amp; It is safe for humans, they've re-done it so that humans could get the same effect horses do, but safely. =]Is Mane %26amp; Tail shampoo safe for the hair?
I bought two huge bottles of Mane %26amp; Tail shampoo and conditioner off of Amazon and used it for a while. I didn't see anything too different or significant happen to my hair. It's okay for me but I like Dove because it gives me thicker, silkier hair.

It's made to be safe for human hair now. There are certain types of Mane %26amp; Tail now that they are making (Moisture, herbal, etc) so that it's better for human hair but I just ran out of the conditioner and have a bit of the shampoo left so I'm using Dove conditioner and I kind of can't wait to get rid of the last few drops of Mane %26amp; Tail. My hair doesn't feel as luscious.
I've used it before, and it makes my hair super soft and shiny. It smells good too. I think it's all natural.
